Squirrel Appreciation Day

During a recent trip in America I was lucky enough to encounter a variety of squirrels in many of the places I went. These creatures are always a favourite of mine to look out for overseas, particularly since we don't have any at home.

I am always captivated by how strong their personalities are and how clearly they come across. They definitely don't seem to be limited by their size and are very bold and inquisitive. At home I often wonder what it would be like to have a bunch of these guys hanging out in all our trees.

While in America I was quite fascinated to see the differences in sizes and appearances from common squirrels across the States. At the Grand Canyon in particular the squirrels were a lot smaller. However, their personalities were just as big. The dude above spent almost an hour chirping away above the canyon calling out to all his friends.

In Houston, while the zoo had a variety of different squirrels on display, including this little guy who enjoyed hiding his nuts in the sand. The ones outside in the part were particularly bold and didn't seem to care for the people around them. I was able to sit on a bench and watch this boar scurry around within feet of me, not at all bothered by my presence or camera.
